Childcare Specialists  Stanley

“Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners, parents and carers” (EYFS 2017)
The environment at Emeralds Little Gems is set up to ensure it is stimulating for all our children; that it offers inquisitive and critical thinking and also allows them to actively explore their environment in safe and secure surroundings.
ENVIRONMENT
Our rooms are set up daily according to the children attending that day. Staff are responsible for ensuring the activities and equipment are age and stage appropriate for the individual child and that they are stimulating, challenging and yet achievable for the children. The rooms are set up in a way that all children can access the equipment; and are displayed in a way that is inviting. We offer inviting book corners in all our rooms which offer high quality books, puppets and puzzles. We have role play areas which are changed to meet children’s current interests and specific needs, for example a child who is nervous about starting school may require a role play area set up as a class room to help role play the new experiences.
All our children have the opportunity to access the outdoor play facilities with planned sessions for the babies and toddlers and open access for the older children. The children enjoy opportunities to explore messy play in the outdoor space such as sand, water, mud, spaghetti and other sensory activities and also have opportunity to explore, play ball games and other physical activities. We go outdoors in all weathers and these areas are used extensively by the children as a natural continuation of their play and learning opportunities.
We are committed to offering our children a valuable learning experience which will benefit all their areas of learning and development The Nursery works within a programme of development appropriate to each child. We will discuss your child’s progress with you as our aim is to dovetail with other parts of their life to contribute to their overall development and achievements. This can be done through close partnerships and observations from home, which encourage children while in nursery to talk about their experiences outside of the setting.

We fully understand the importance of offering our children activities that stimulate their interests however we also believe children should have the opportunity to experience some adult–led experiences, these experiences allow our children to develop skills in areas they may not know they are interested in.

However, one of the most important resources at the Nursery are both our own highly skilled and experienced Nursery Team and the friends your child will have around them

We use resources that are age appropriate and developmentally appropriate with each age group, however, planning and observations are key to every child’s individual learning and development, the environment we provide is also enhanced and enriched through this process to support children’s interests and needs. The children’s views are respected and listened to and incorporated into everything we do. We encourage positive behavior through our golden rules at an early age.
In our quest to improve our practice and to achieve the very best outcomes for children, we often participate in development projects, programmes and research that your child may become involved in and benefit from. Projects include the Again Project to support language and literacy, Baby Room Project, outdoor projects, such as Woodland Schools as well as both the National Maths & English Champions Projects, which promotes new and innovative ways of developing children’s maths and English skills.
At Emeralds Little Gems we enjoy being out and about amongst our community. We make frequent visits to the local parks, amenities and places of interest and attend events, plays and shows throughout the year where possible. We also welcome a wide range of visitors such as police, Fire fighters, vets to talk to the children and enhance their learning.
We believe in offering access to outside environments where our children can learn about the world and what is around them. Our children greatly benefit from participating in our woodland schools programme from 2-year-old where children can explore the natural environment, learn about nature and the world around them, take measured risks and enjoy experiences that are out of the ordinary exciting and new in a supervised and controlled outdoor environment.
